Arch 201, Charrette 02
Charrette number two was an excersice in algorithmic problem solving. We were to come up with some meaningful expression and translate it into a series of rules for building a structure. It was during this project that I took an interest to “algorithmic architecture.” Although this was all done by hand, the process got me interested in scripting and the like. The rules I came up with along with pictures of the finished product are below.
I converted each character of the phrase I chose (“propogate meaning”) into its binary representation. These interpretations were then applied to seven transformations: a zero meaning do nothing, a one meaning apply the transformation. Using this method, I was able to come up with the following using a limited number of different elements. In the diagram below, the gray boxes represent “one’s” in that characters binary representation and therefore show which transformations took place for each character.
